Tell us about yourself
I was born a Navy Brat so I spent most of my early life moving around the US. Eventually we found our way to Jacksonville, Florida, and I now live in Lee’s Summit, a suburb of Kansas City, MO. I’ve wanted to be a Dentist for as long as I can remember. While I was growing up, I always enjoyed watching what my dentist was doing, and am now working towards my dream of becoming a Dentist. My goal is to attend dental school and specialize in oral surgery.
What has been your experience volunteering for SCL?
I wanted to gain some administration experience in the Dental Field, so SCL was a good fit for me. I really enjoy supporting the staff with a variety of projects, and I look forward to going to their office at Crown Center. I always feel like I’ve accomplished something with my day, and hopefully make a difference in a child’s life by bringing a smile to their face. And the parking is free! Many of the SCL volunteers are college students and we are all broke, so nice to know I don’t have to pay for parking!
What do you like to do for fun when you’re not in school, working or volunteering?
For fun I enjoy bowling. I’m a certified bowling coach and whenever I get the opportunity I like helping people and educating them on the sport of bowling. Also, I am currently starting a Non-For Profit organization called “Bettas Fight Back.” I have had a fascination with the Japanese fighting fish since I was young and I wanted to combine two things I like, Bettas and helping people. My Organization is trying to raise money to send to Hope House in Kansas City to help offset some of the costs. A little goes a long way!
Future Plans?
One day I would like to have my own practice in Lee’s Summit. Should dental school not work out I would like to become a high school teacher. My main goal in life is to change people’s lives. Whether it’s being a dentist or teacher, I can do just that!
We thank Joshua for donating his time and supporting our staff in bracing kids for a better future!
