Krunal Bombaywala came to us via the UMKC Pre-Dental Society and is a vital member of the SCL volunteer Smile Support team!
Krunal and his family moved from California to Liberal, KS in 2006.
“My parents immigrated from India to the US in the 1990’s. I have a little sister coming up the ranks and will be going to high school. Since childhood, dentistry has always been something that I’ve been interested in. When I was a child I got my dad’s drill and tried to replicate a procedure I had seen at the dentist!”
What compelled you to volunteer for SCL?
“Their mission. I’ve always wanted to be a dentist because I love to help people, regardless of gender, religion, socioeconomic status, etc. Dental care is a right that everyone should have and can’t be taken away from you. When I heard that SCL helps children get affordable braces it really hit home to me since I know firsthand that braces can be very expensive. Organizations like SCL have a place in my heart because I want to replicate this when I become a Dentist.”
What do you like to do for fun when you’re not busy with school or volunteering?
“I like to hang out with friends, play soccer, basketball, play video games and just really enjoy the day if it is nice outside. I have to be doing something; I can’t just be sitting at home all day, so I occupy myself with learning something new, or stepping outside of my comfort zone.”
What would you say to someone thinking of volunteering for SCL?
“I really recommend volunteering at SCL because you are truly helping a child in need of treatment. Whether it’s a mailing project or locating new dentists, you are changing a child’s smile by giving them the opportunity to have braces, and that is a limited commodity. Also, the environment prepares you for the real world. With the projects given to you, SCL doesn’t make you feel like a volunteer, they make you feel you are a part of their team.”
