Featured Volunteer – Ms. Hannah Ragsdale

“Being part of such a large-scale initiative to improve the lives of children is extremely fulfilling.”

– Hannah Ragsdale

Hannah became aware of SCL via the UMKC Pre-Dental Symposium, which we were invited to attended on October 14th of this year. In Hannah’s short amount of time volunteering she has become a vital member of our volunteer force. She donates her time weekly, and always brings an excellent work ethic and enthusiasm for our mission. We are grateful to Hannah for her dedication and passion in bracing kids for a better future!

Tell us about yourself

I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and became interested in dentistry in middle school. Throughout the years I found it fascinating that most procedures in the dental field displayed immediate results. It was extremely rewarding to witness dentists, as well as orthodontists, instill confidence in their patients.

What compelled you to volunteer for Smiles Change Lives?

SCL is the perfect fit for me because my goal is to gain administrative experience within the medical field. Whether it is working on patient files or locating dentists, all volunteer opportunities offer a positive impact in the lives of children across the nation. Being part of such a large-scale initiative to improve the lives of children is extremely fulfilling.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not in school or volunteering?

Although school and volunteering keep me pretty busy, I enjoy exercising, shopping, and watching movies. I have always been fascinated with the medical field so I am a big fan of Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor. And, of course, I spend as much time with friends and family as possible. I recently moved to Kansas City and it is a great place to live. It has so much for offer.

What would you say to someone who is considering to volunteer at Smiles Change Lives?

SCL is a wonderful organization to volunteer for! The staff is so welcoming and friendly. The various volunteer opportunities will enhance leadership and communication skills that are necessary in all health professions. The faces of the participants and the care that SCL provides are absolutely amazing. Smiles Change Lives truly does change lives!
