TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

I have been a Dental Assistant for 7 years, which inspired me to further my education in dentistry.
I’m currently a full time student at UMKC in the Pre-Dental Program and work part-time as an assistant.

WHAT COMPELLED YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR SCL?

I grew up with very crooked teeth and wore braces for 5 ½ years, so I know how it feels to be self-conscious about my teeth. My parents didn’t have a lot of money and braces are tough to pay for. Parents only want what’s best for their children, and it would be heartbreaking to not have the means to help your child smile. I was compelled to volunteer for SCL so I can help give kids the confidence to smile, laugh, or speak to friends, family, and even future employers! SCL gives parents a hand up while providing a very important service to their children.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN WHEN YOU’RE NOT BUSY WITH SCHOOL OR VOLUNTEERING?

When I’m not studying or working, I like to go camping, bike riding, kayaking, and hiking with my boyfriend and my dog, Layya. I LOVE sushi and reading as well.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING TO VOLUNTEER FOR SCL?

I encourage people to consider volunteering for SCL. The staff is really nice and the projects are very rewarding. Thank you for the opportunity to be of part of the SCL team!
